US President Donald Trump shared bold hopes for peace in Gaza during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington, DC, on September 30. He made it clear: if Hamas accepts the new Gaza peace proposal, the war could end right away—not just in Gaza, but across the region.
Trump explained that the deal would kick off with Hamas releasing all remaining hostages within 72 hours. In return, Arab and Muslim countries have pledged in writing to demilitarize Gaza. That means dismantling Hamas’s military power, wiping out terror groups, and destroying tunnels, weapons, and production sites that fuel the violence.
“No more shooting, hopefully,” Trump said, expressing confidence that these nations understand how to handle Hamas. The plan sets a phased timeline for Israeli forces to withdraw as goals are met. If Arab and Muslim countries fall short, Israel gets full US support to step in and eliminate the Hamas threat once and for all.
Trump didn’t shy away from the risks. He admitted Hamas might reject the offer, but stressed unwavering backing for Israel. “You’d have our full support to do what you need to do, Bibi,” he told Netanyahu, using the prime minister’s nickname. The goal? End the “tyranny of terror” from Hamas and ensure no more dangers in the region. To make it stick, Trump’s plan creates a new “Board of Peace” for international oversight.
This comes right after the White House unveiled the full peace plan following the Trump-Netanyahu meeting. It envisions Gaza as a deradicalized, terror-free zone that won’t threaten neighbors. The focus shifts to rebuilding for Gaza’s people, who’ve endured enough suffering in the two-year conflict.
Under the proposal, both sides agreeing means the war stops immediately. Israeli troops pull back to a set line, halting all strikes, bombings, and advances while battle lines freeze. Once Israel publicly signs on, hostages—alive or deceased—return within 72 hours.
After that, Israel releases 250 prisoners serving life sentences, plus 1,700 Gazans detained since the October 7, 2023, attacks, including all women and children in that group. For every set of Israeli hostage remains handed over, Israel would return the remains of 15 deceased Gazans.
Trump wrapped up by saying he truly hopes for a peace deal. With Hamas’s decision looming, the world watches to see if this Gaza peace proposal can finally bring an end to the war and start a safer future.
