Manipur police report that law and order stayed steady across the state over the last 24 hours. Officers carried out search and combing operations in various districts, leading to several key arrests.
State police chief Rajiv Singh met with medical officers from Manipur police battalions. He praised their hard work and talked about ways to boost medical support for officers in battalions and districts. This comes as security forces keep up patrols in risky border areas and launch targeted raids based on intelligence tips. Their focus? Cracking down on extortion rackets and other crimes that plague the region.
On Monday, teams nabbed three active insurgents from different spots in Manipur. First up, 19-year-old Naoshekpam Sanathoi Meitel Leichil, a member of the NRFM, got caught in his Bishnupur district village of Khoijuman Mayai Leikal.
In Imphal West, officers arrested 54-year-old Sanasam Sanatomba Singh, also known as Naoton, from the RPF/PLA group. They grabbed him near his home under Lamsang Police Station and seized two INSAS LMG magazines, two camouflage helmets, five bulletproof plates, four vests, and a mobile phone.
Then, in Kakching district, 41-year-old Urikhinbam Premjit Singh from the KYKL was picked up at Paona Bazar. Police say he ran extortion schemes targeting shops and locals in the valley areas. They recovered a mobile phone and a bag with Rs 3,280 cash.
In another bust, security forces arrested two men from Ngari Raidulomai Village in Senapati district’s Maram Bazar. The pair, 40-year-old T.S. Valleyrose and 37-year-old T.T. Doveine Worthingla, were caught in Bishnupur’s Kwakta Terakhongshangbi under Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station. Officers found 11 soap cases hiding about 161 grams of heroin powder, plus two mobile phones and two Aadhaar cards.
At Imphal Airport, police stopped two young passengers smuggling contraband cannabis. The haul weighed around 21.42 kilograms, tucked inside their luggage. The suspects are 20-year-old Laishram Vikash Singh from Nagamapal Lamabam Leikal in Imphal West, and 19-year-old Ngangbam Nelson Meitei from Takyel Kolom Leikal in the same district.
Traffic enforcement heated up too. Manipur police issued 33 challans on Monday, raking in Rs 61,500 in fines. On September 28, they stripped tinted films from four vehicles to enforce road rules.
Security stayed tight for essential supplies. Officers escorted 392 vehicles carrying goods along National Highway 37, using convoys in high-risk zones. They set up 114 checkpoints across hill and valley districts, but made no further stops.
Manipur police urged the public to ignore rumors and fake videos spreading online. Check facts by calling the Central Control Room at 9233522822. They warned that posting or sharing bogus content on social media could lead to legal trouble.
Finally, police called on residents to hand over any looted arms, ammo, or explosives to the nearest station or security post right away. These steps aim to keep Manipur’s fragile peace intact amid ongoing challenges.
