Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami shared warm greetings with people across the state on Tuesday for Durga Ashtami and Ram Navami, two vibrant festivals that light up India’s cultural scene.
In his message, Dhami highlighted how these celebrations showcase the nation’s deep spiritual roots. “Durga Ashtami and Ram Navami go beyond just honoring the divine,” he said. “They remind us of key values like courage, righteousness, and women’s empowerment.”
He focused on Durga Ashtami, also called Maha Ashtami, the eighth day of Navratri. Devotees worship Goddess Mahagauri, one of the nine forms of Durga, who stands for purity, peace, and calm. Many believe praying to her helps wash away past mistakes and brings wisdom and serenity.
A special part of the day is Kanya Puja, where families honor young, unmarried girls as living forms of the goddess. They serve them special meals and gifts, often right between Ashtami and Navami. Dhami stressed how these rituals spotlight the power of Shakti, the divine feminine energy that shapes the universe, and push for greater women’s empowerment in Uttarakhand and beyond.
Shifting to another key issue, Dhami earlier called for a CBI probe into the recent Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSSC) exam paper leak. He made the announcement during an unannounced visit to the Parade Ground in Dehradun on Monday, where youth protesters had gathered demanding action.
Speaking directly to the crowd, the chief minister acknowledged their frustration. “The youth want a CBI inquiry, so our government will recommend it without any delays,” Dhami assured them. He added that a Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by a retired High Court judge, is already digging into the case.
Dhami made it clear his government stands firmly with the young people of Uttarakhand. Over the last four years, officials have handled more than 25,000 recruitments with full transparency and few complaints—except this one. “We’re committed to clearing up any doubts and building trust,” he said, explaining his surprise visit was to hear their concerns firsthand.
In a big gesture, Dhami promised to drop all cases filed against protesters during the UKSSSC paper leak demonstrations. He wrapped up by inspiring the youth: In this era of a rising India, young talents like you will help turn Uttarakhand into the country’s top state.
