As Australia prepares to defend their ICC Women’s World Cup title, captain Alyssa Healy knows the pressure is on. “Everyone wants to beat Australia,” she said ahead of their opener against New Zealand in Indore on Wednesday. But the seven-time champions stay calm under fire and always fight back when things get tough.
The Australian women’s cricket team heads into the tournament on a high note. They just clinched a thrilling 2-1 ODI series win over hosts India, giving them valuable practice in local conditions. Healy, speaking to JioStar, shared her mindset: “I’m focused on leading the side to an ODI World Cup victory. I don’t take it for granted—I’m driven to succeed here. It’s a real balance. We wrestle the momentum back our way by staying composed.”
Vice-captain Tahlia McGrath chimed in about her partnership with Healy. “She’s super passionate and vocal, while I aim to be the calm one in the background,” McGrath explained. “That balance works great on the field. And shoutout to pacer Megan Schutt—she’s incredibly consistent and reliable, especially in those tough overs. She doesn’t get enough credit. Off the pitch, she’s our team DJ and the ultimate cool vibe.”
Batter Beth Mooney highlighted the squad’s unbreakable spirit. “We never give up and always believe we can win from any spot,” she said. “That winning mentality and group belief is what seals the deal for us.”
Australia’s full squad for the Women’s World Cup includes: Alyssa Healy (captain), Darcie Brown, Ash Gardner, Kim Garth, Heather Graham, Alana King, Phoebe Litchfield, Tahlia McGrath, Sophie Molineux, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Voll, and Georgia Wareham.
