US President Donald Trump issued a stark warning during a speech to top military leaders at the Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia. Speaking on Tuesday, he described an “invasion from within” the country as no different from a foreign enemy attack—but tougher to spot because these threats don’t wear uniforms.
“Were under invasion from within. No different than a foreign enemy, but more difficult in many ways because they don’t wear uniforms,” Trump said, according to CNN.
Trump turned his focus to urban crime, urging Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to turn some of America’s most dangerous cities into training grounds for the military and National Guard. He spotlighted Chicago as a prime example, saying, “In our inner cities, which we’re going to be talking about because it’s a big part of war now… I told Pete that we should use some of these dangerous cities as training grounds for our military, National Guard, but military. Because we’re going into Chicago very soon.”
The president didn’t stop there. He called out San Francisco, Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles as “very unsafe places” and promised his administration would tackle them one by one. “San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles. They’re very unsafe places. And we’re gonna straighten them out one-by-one. This is gonna be a major part for some of the people in this room. It’s a war, too. It’s a war from within,” Trump added.
This comes amid Trump’s broader push against crime and immigration. Just last week, on September 21, he praised the drop in Washington, DC crime, crediting his administration’s takeover of local policing. “Washington, DC has become beautiful and safe… it’s because of the good governance,” he said.
As part of that effort, the Trump administration is eyeing National Guard deployment to Chicago to ramp up the anti-crime crackdown.
