Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has stepped in with major support for farmers hit hard by recent floods. He announced a delay in repaying crop loans and a full waiver on tubewell electricity bills through December. This move will help around 300,000 farmers get back on their feet after the heavy damage.
Saini shared these updates with reporters in Chandigarh. On Wednesday, the government sent Rs 4.72 crore directly to 2,386 affected families via the e-Kshatipurti portal. That includes Rs 4.67 crore for damaged homes and household goods, plus Rs 4.21 lakh for lost livestock. It’s a quick way to ease the burden on flood victims in Haryana.
For crop losses, over 537,000 farmers from 6,397 villages signed up on the same portal. Once officials verify the damage, each will get Rs 15,000 per acre as compensation—a key relief package for Haryana farmers facing flood recovery.
In areas where floods wiped out more than half the crops, and where indebted farmers lost at least 33% of their harvest, the state is putting off the collection of Kharif crop loans from cooperative societies. Plus, these farmers can count on fresh loans for the upcoming Rabi season to keep their fields productive.
On the procurement front, things are moving steadily. By September 30, five lakh metric tons of paddy reached mandis across Haryana, with 3.58 lakh metric tons already bought by agencies. Farmers received Rs 109 crore in payments for their hard work.
For millet, procurement agencies snapped up 187.30 metric tons, while traders handled 4,970 metric tons. Saini promised that every farmer will get the minimum support price of Rs 2,775 per quintal. If agencies buy at a lower rate, the government will top up the difference. Even if traders pay less for damaged millet, the state will cover the gap based on that day’s rate—ensuring fair deals for Haryana millet farmers.
Beyond farming aid, Saini highlighted funds for local development. The government released Rs 404.79 crore as the second installment to Panchayati Raj Institutions, reaching 5,719 panchayats, 144 panchayat samitis, and three zila parishads. Over the last four years, they’ve pumped in Rs 3,700 crore for community projects.
Saini also launched the Deendayal Lado Laxmi Yojana on September 25, marking Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay’s birth anniversary. The scheme comes with a handy app, and in just six days, 171,946 women have signed up—showing strong interest in this new initiative for Haryana’s families.
