TN Police to recruit ex-servicemen for elite bomb disposal units

Tamil Nadu Police are ramping up their fight against terrorism and boosting public safety by hiring experienced ex-servicemen and former paramilitary personnel for their Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads, or BDDS. This new recruitment drive targets skilled experts who can handle explosives and tackle threats head-on, especially as security needs grow in the state.
The department plans to fill 59 positions on a one-year contract basis. They need two Inspectors from retired Subedars or Subedar-Majors, 14 Sub-Inspectors from ex-Naib Subedars, and 43 Head Constables from ex-Havildars or Naiks. Salaries look solid too—Head Constables earn between Rs 20,600 and Rs 65,500, while Inspectors get Rs 37,700 to Rs 1,19,500.
To qualify, candidates must be under 50 years old as of July 1, 2025, and have at least 10 years of service in the Indian Army or a paramilitary force. You’ll also need a Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) or equivalent, plus a minimum six-week certification in bomb detection and disposal from top spots like Pune’s Centre for Military Engineering, the National Security Guard (NSG), or the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). Hands-on experience counts big time, especially if you’ve worked in elite teams such as the Indian Army’s 261 or 262 Counter Explosive Devices Units, NSG bomb disposal squads, the National Bomb Data Centre, or airport security.
On top of that, applicants stay in top physical shape with ‘SHAPE-1’ medical fitness and must be ready to train others in both Tamil and English.
If you’re eligible, send your application by post to the Additional Director General of Police, Operations, at Marutham, No.17, Boat Club Road, Raja Annamalaipuram, Chennai – 600028. Get it in by October 31, and include your bio-data, educational certificates, discharge book pages, pension orders, and proof of your BDD training and experience. Shortlisted folks will go through certificate checks, a written test, and practical demos to seal the deal.
Keep in mind, this is all under specific contractual rules, so check the details to make sure it fits your plans. This move highlights how Tamil Nadu is prioritizing counter-terrorism and bomb disposal expertise to keep communities safe.
