India and Russia are gearing up for a big moment: Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to New Delhi in December for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit. Deputy National Security Advisor Pawan Kapoor shared this update during recent Russian-Indian talks in Moscow, as reported by Russia’s state news agency Tass.
Kapoor noted that the two nations keep things strong with regular meetings, both one-on-one and at global events. The trip is set for the first week of December, building on their deep ties at the highest levels.
Just look at the recent action. In August, India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval headed to Moscow and met Putin along with Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu. Then, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar caught up with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Putin held a key bilateral chat during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. Modi emphasized how vital their partnership is for global peace and stability. He even said that 140 million Indians are eagerly awaiting Putin’s arrival for the summit.
“This shows the true meaning of our special and privileged strategic partnership,” Modi remarked. He added that even in tough times, India and Russia have stood side by side. “Our teamwork matters not just for our people, but for world peace, prosperity, and stability.”
On the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Modi welcomed recent steps toward resolution and urged all sides to keep pushing forward. “We need to find ways to end this as soon as possible and bring back peace and stability in the region. That’s what humanity calls for,” he said.
The leaders even shared a ride in the same car to their meeting spot, highlighting their close bond. Putin, in his opening remarks at the SCO Summit, praised India’s role. “We truly appreciate the efforts from India, China, and our other partners to help settle the Ukraine crisis,” he stated.
These moves come as India-Russia relations stay rock-solid, with the upcoming summit poised to boost cooperation even further.
