A mild earthquake shook Karachi, Pakistan, on Wednesday morning, rattling nerves in the bustling city. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) clocked the quake at magnitude 3.2, with tremors hitting at 9:34 a.m. local time. The epicenter sat just 7 kilometers northwest of Malir, at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers underground.
No immediate reports of damage or injuries have surfaced yet, but residents in the area likely felt the ground move briefly. Karachi, a major port city prone to seismic activity, often experiences such shakes due to its location near fault lines.
This comes on the heels of a stronger jolt earlier this month. On September 16, a magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck deeper in Pakistan, according to India’s National Centre for Seismology (NCS). That one hit at a depth of 60 kilometers, with coordinates at latitude 31.36 N and longitude 70.28 E. Seismologists continue to monitor the region for any aftershocks, as Pakistan sits in an earthquake-prone zone along the Indian plate’s edge.
