India and Sri Lanka are teaming up to host the world’s first Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind, a groundbreaking event set for November 11 to 23, 2025. This tournament promises to spotlight visually impaired women athletes and push boundaries in blind cricket.
The action kicks off in New Delhi with the inauguration and five exciting matches from November 11 to 13. It then heads to Bengaluru for four games on November 14 to 16. The finale wraps up in Colombo, Sri Lanka, with 15 matches from November 14 to 23, including the semi-finals and grand final on November 23.
Officials announced the news during a lively press conference in Colombo. Key figures included Sri Lanka’s Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage; Sugath Wasantha De Silva, chairman of the Sri Lanka Council of Visually Handicapped Graduates; and Mahantesh G. Kivadasannavar, chairman of India’s Cricket Association for the Blind (CABI).
Kivadasannavar highlighted the event’s impact, calling it a “historic moment in women’s blind cricket.” He praised the collaboration and urged Sri Lankans, businesses, and philanthropists to sponsor the tournament and cheer on the teams. “This will showcase sport’s power to break barriers and inspire generations,” he added.
Sudesh Tharanga, president of the Sri Lanka Cricket Association for the Visually Handicapped, echoed the excitement. “We’re proud to co-host this first-ever Women’s T20 Blind Cricket World Cup with India,” he said. Tharanga stressed how it empowers women in blind cricket and boosts inclusivity for visually impaired athletes. “It’s more than a tournament—it’s a new chapter that promotes equality and hope in sports.”
Sugath Wasantha De Silva emphasized blind cricket’s role in personal growth. “Sport transforms lives, and this event will recognize every player’s talent while inspiring others,” he noted, wishing all teams the best.
Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage, a cricket fan at heart, called the sport a “passion that unites Sri Lanka.” He welcomed teams from seven countries and launched the tournament poster alongside other leaders. Gamage also kicked off the Sri Lanka Cricket Association for the Visually Handicapped website during the event.
Buse Gowda, CABI president, wrapped up with a vote of thanks. Organizers from both associations joined the celebration.
The 2025 Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind will feature teams from Australia, England, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the USA. Expect 21 league matches, two semi-finals, and a thrilling final, all celebrating resilience and talent in blind cricket.
