Two Delta regional jets bumped into each other at low speed while taxiing on the runway at New York’s LaGuardia Airport Wednesday night, leaving one flight attendant with minor injuries, officials said.
The incident happened just before 10 p.m. when the wing of Endeavor Air Flight 5155—headed to Roanoke, Virginia—clipped the side of Endeavor Air Flight 5047, which had just arrived from Charlotte, North Carolina. Both planes are Bombardier CRJ-900 models operated by Delta Connection.
Luckily, none of the passengers got hurt. The injured crew member went to a hospital for treatment that’s not life-threatening, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and Delta Air Lines.
Social media quickly lit up with photos and videos showing emergency crews rushing to the scene on the Queens airport’s taxiway. One image captured a clear dent in the nose of one plane, while another showed a damaged wing sitting idle on the tarmac.
Delta acted fast to help everyone involved. The 28 passengers on Flight 5155 and 57 on Flight 5047 took buses back to the terminal, where they got snacks and drinks. The airline is now booking them into hotels, providing meals, and offering flights for Thursday.
” Our Delta team at LaGuardia is making sure customers get the care they need after these two Delta Connection planes, run by Endeavor Air, had a minor taxiway collision,” Delta said in a statement. “We’ll team up with authorities to figure out what happened—safety always comes first. We’re sorry for the hassle this caused our passengers.”
The good news? The collision didn’t disrupt flights at the busy LaGuardia Airport. Delta plans to investigate alongside the Port Authority, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
The FAA hasn’t commented yet on the Delta planes collision at LaGuardia Airport.
