India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal met Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in New Delhi on Friday to boost ties between the two countries. The leaders focused on strengthening their comprehensive strategic partnership, highlighting the strong momentum and huge potential for future growth in India-Singapore relations.
Goyal shared on X that the talks reaffirmed their shared commitment to deeper collaboration. Wong echoed this, noting they had a productive chat about expanding economic ties—from developing industrial parks to cutting-edge fields like artificial intelligence (AI).
Goyal also held discussions with Chin Yau Seng, CEO of Singapore Airlines Engineering Company (SIAEC). They explored ways to ramp up India-Singapore cooperation in the aviation maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) sector. Goyal mentioned on X new opportunities in innovation, skill development, and investment to grow India’s aerospace industry and improve global connectivity.
In another key meeting, Goyal talked with Lee Chee Koon, Group CEO of CapitaLand Investment, and Manohar Khiatani, its Senior Executive Director. Their conversation centered on pushing forward sustainable urban development and infrastructure projects in India, particularly in logistics, warehousing, and data centers. Goyal posted that they looked at fresh ways to fuel India’s growth through smart partnerships.
This comes after Wong’s meeting last month with India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi. They reviewed results from the recent 3rd India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable and expressed interest in teaming up on cross-border data flows and capital markets. Wong posted on X that he was glad to reconnect and saw big potential for Singapore and India to strengthen financial and digital links.
Wong’s visit marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore, underscoring both nations’ ongoing dedication to a robust partnership.
