In Ahmedabad, India, Ravindra Jadeja made headlines on day two of the first Test against West Indies by smashing his way past MS Dhoni to become India’s fourth-highest six-hitter in Test cricket. The star all-rounder hit four massive sixes—all off spinner Jomel Warrican—to push his total to 79 in 86 Tests, edging out Dhoni’s 78 from 90 matches.

Jadeja reached this milestone while unbeaten on 50 off 81 balls, including three fours and those four sixes, at a strike rate above 61. Leading the pack ahead of him are Rohit Sharma with 88 sixes in 67 Tests, Virender Sehwag with 90 in 103, and Rishabh Pant with 90 in just 47.

This year alone, Jadeja has notched seven fifty-plus scores in Tests—the most of any batter. Across seven Tests and 13 innings, he’s racked up 605 runs at an average of 75.62, featuring one century and six fifties, with a top score of 107 not out. He’s also closing in on 4,000 Test runs, sitting at 3,936 from 86 Tests and 129 innings, averaging 38.21 with five centuries and 28 fifties—his best being 175 not out.

Before this series, Jadeja shone as India’s fourth-leading run-scorer in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England in the UK, piling on 516 runs in five matches at an average of 86, including a century and five fifties.

The session kicked off with India at 218 for 3, leading by 56 runs after KL Rahul’s fluent century. But Rahul fell soon after lunch for exactly 100 off 197 balls, caught at extra cover off Warrican, leaving India at 218 for 4 with 12 boundaries to his name.

Jadeja teamed up with wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel for an explosive stand. They fired off three sixes in just eight balls between overs 71 and 72, with Jadeja charging down the track to launch two over long-on and mid-on against Warrican. The pair kept the pressure on, hammering boundaries off Warrican and Roston Chase to hit India’s 250 in 74.3 overs.

By the 76th over, India’s lead topped 100, thanks to a Jadeja four and Jurel’s towering six off Chase—they added 11 runs that over and reached their fifty partnership in 77 balls. Jurel survived an lbw shout from Jayden Seales and brought up his second Test fifty in 91 balls, with five fours and two sixes.

Jurel’s classy cut shot off Justin Greaves pushed India past 300 in 87 overs. The duo kept scoring freely, reaching their century stand in 151 balls, with Jadeja dominating Warrican for all four of his sixes. Jadeja sealed his 28th Test fifty with a single off Warrican, off 75 balls.

At the end of the session, India stood strong at 326 for 4, with Jurel on 68 not out and Jadeja on 50 not out—no further wickets fell.

Brief scores: India 326 for 4 (KL Rahul 100, Dhruv Jurel 68 not out, Ravindra Jadeja 50 not out; Roston Chase 2-37) lead West Indies 162 (Justin Greaves 32, Shai Hope 26; Mohammed Siraj 4-40) by 164 runs.
