Filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan is setting the record straight on rumors about his latest film, Homebound. The critically acclaimed Indian drama has sparked buzz, but some reports claimed he only paid INR 10,000 to the real-life family that inspired the story. Ghaywan quickly shut down those claims in a detailed post on X, formerly Twitter, on Friday.

He explained that the INR 10,000 was just a small personal gift he gave years ago to Ram Charan ji, the father of one of the family members, during early research for the film. "It was simply a parting gesture," Ghaywan wrote. He stressed that this wasn’t the full compensation and that he and the producers would never undervalue such an important story. "The family’s contributions are invaluable and deeply meaningful to me," he added.

Ghaywan went on to say they’ve shown the family "sincere respect and significant support" over the years. The family has shared their happiness with him about it, and he chose not to reveal the exact amount to honor the close bond he shares with Amrit and Saiyub, the real heroes behind Homebound.

Homebound tells a touching story of two childhood friends in India: Shoaib, a Muslim, and Chandan, a Dalit. As they face systemic injustices and societal biases, the film highlights their fight for dignity and meaningful jobs. Against the backdrop of India’s deep-rooted social divides, it dives into big themes like identity, caste, and faith—all through the lens of a powerful male friendship. The movie has earned praise for its honest take on these issues, making it a must-watch for fans of Indian cinema exploring real-world challenges.
