India’s massive health drive, the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan, wrapped up on October 2 after running from September 17, reaching millions of women, children, and families with vital health services across the country.
Organized by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Women and Child Development, this campaign set up over 18 lakh health camps—both basic screening ones and specialized setups. Nearly 10 crore people showed up nationwide, making it the biggest outreach ever for women’s and children’s health in India.
The numbers tell a huge story of impact. Health workers screened 1.78 crore people for hypertension and 1.72 crore for diabetes. More than 37 lakh women got breast cancer checks, while over 19 lakh received cervical cancer screenings. Oral cancer checks reached 69 lakh individuals, and 62.60 lakh pregnant women had antenatal check-ups.
Kids benefited too: 1.43 crore children got life-saving vaccines, and 1.51 crore underwent anaemia screening. Nutrition counseling helped 1.16 crore people, TB screenings covered 85 lakh citizens, and 10.23 lakh got tested for Sickle Cell Disease. The drive even registered 4.30 lakh new blood donors and issued over 10.69 lakh Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY health cards.
These efforts went beyond basic National Health Mission camps. Top spots like AIIMS, other Institutes of National Importance, tertiary hospitals, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, medical colleges, and even private facilities jumped in. They hosted thousands of specialty camps offering advanced diagnostics, counseling, and treatments, all while teaming up with state governments and local health workers.
The campaign zeroed in on women-centric care, boosting screenings and early detection for non-communicable diseases like diabetes and hypertension, plus anaemia, tuberculosis, and sickle cell disease. It also pushed maternal and child health through antenatal visits, immunizations, nutrition advice, menstrual hygiene education, and awareness on lifestyle and mental health.
Communities got a big nudge toward healthier habits, with a focus on preventing obesity, eating better, and encouraging voluntary blood donations. Overall, the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan brought preventive, promotive, and curative services right to people’s doorsteps at community health centers, district hospitals, and other government spots.
