Dubai’s Expo City buzzed with more than 15,000 people on Saturday as Iraq’s cultural heritage took center stage. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, opened the celebration and met with Dr. Muzafar Mustafa Al Jabouri, Iraq’s ambassador to the UAE, along with a host of Iraqi diplomats and community leaders.

The gathering, organized by the UAE Loves Iraq social platform, showcased Iraqi music, folk dancing, art displays and traditional food. It celebrated the long‑standing friendship between the UAE and Iraq and highlighted the vibrant contributions of Iraqis living in the UAE.

Key moments:

  • Sheikh Nahyan’s speech: He praised Iraq’s rich cultural legacy and the UAE’s commitment to preserving heritage as a pillar of national identity. “We want the Arab nation to remain a source of strength, pride and positive development,” he said.
  • Business ties: The UAE remains one of Iraq’s top trading partners. In May, the UAE‑Iraq Business Forum in Dubai hosted 170 companies and 250 business meetings, and UAE non‑oil exports to Iraq jumped 41 % in the first half of 2024.
  • Community awards: Several Iraqi figures received honors, including Dr. Ahmed Al‑Kubaisi, Dr. Muthanna Abdul Razzaq Al Jabouri, Professor Ali Jaafar Al Alak, and the late poet Kareem Al‑Iraqi (award passed to his daughter).
  • Writing competition: Sheikh Nahyan invited Iraqi residents to join the “Our Life in the UAE” writing contest, encouraging stories that tie personal experiences to the host country.

The event underscored the UAE’s model of coexistence and collaboration. By celebrating Iraq’s culture and strengthening business links, Dubai continues to attract Iraqi talent and investment, making the city a welcoming second home for many.
