A major breakthrough in India’s anti-terror efforts: the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a wanted terror suspect linked to the deadly grenade attack on a temple in Amritsar. The attack took place back in March 2025, shocking the nation.

The accused, Sharanjit Kumar, also known as Sunny, is a resident of Bhaini Bangar in Punjab’s Batala district. He was caught late on Friday night in Gaya, Bihar, after months of being on the run. The NIA had been tracking him closely using both human and technical intelligence.

This case is connected to a grenade attack on March 15, 2025, carried out by two bike-borne attackers, Gursidak Singh and Vishal Gill. They acted under the guidance of foreign handlers based in Europe, the US, and Canada, who supplied funds, weapons, and logistical support.

According to investigations, Sharanjit played a key role by receiving a shipment of four grenades in Batala on March 1, 2025. Just two days before the attack, he handed over one grenade to the attackers. After the blast, Sharanjit vanished from the scene and managed to stay hidden for months.

Using advanced intelligence gathering, authorities finally tracked him down to a village called Gopalpur, located near the Delhi-Kolkata Highway in Gaya district. With the help of Sherghati police, the NIA raided his hideout late at night, surrounded him, and made the arrest.

Police officials revealed that Sharanjit was highly clever, often disguising himself as a truck driver and using fake identities. He had set up a hidden base in a roadside lodge on GT Road to run his operations smoothly.

The NIA has registered cases under the Explosives Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). After his arrest, Sharanjit was taken to Chandigarh for interrogation. Authorities are now digging deeper to uncover the full terror network behind the Amritsar attack.

This arrest is part of ongoing efforts to take down terror networks in India. In recent years, the NIA and Bihar police have jointly cracked down on several accused individuals linked to the banned organization Popular Front of India (PFI).

Stay tuned for more updates on this important investigation and counter-terrorism efforts in India.
