In New Delhi on Oct. 5, India’s Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia told a big event called the “Kautilya Economic Enclave 2025” that the country is moving fast toward 5G. He said India’s state‑run service BSNL will switch its 4G towers to 5G in the next six to eight months, giving the whole country the speed and power of a full 5G network.

Scindia highlighted how India now has its own 4G standard and is proud of its tech talent. He added that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has turned global challenges into opportunities with foresight and resilience. The minister also pointed out that India is on track to become the world’s second‑largest economy by 2027.

BSNL, which had been losing money for 17 years, now turned profitable. The company’s customers jumped from 78 lakh to 2.2 crore last year. All of BSNL’s microwave towers can be upgraded to 5G, he said, which will prepare the country for future demands.

A month earlier, BSNL launched the “Bharat Telecom Stack” – an all‑India built, secure 4G network that will connect more than 26,700 villages with fast internet for the first time. The stack was created with TCS, C‑DOT, and Tejas Networks, making India the fifth country to build a completely indigenous telecom stack for 4G and beyond.

Now, 2.2 crore Indians will have affordable 4G data. Rural users can enjoy digital learning, smarter farming tools, and 24‑hour tele‑medicine services that the new network brings. Scindia’s announcement shows India’s commitment to advancing its telecom sector, boosting rural connectivity, and driving the country’s digital economy forward.
