Cyclone Shakhti was moving steadily across the northwest Arabian Sea on October 5, 2025. Moving at 15 km per hour (about 9 mph) toward the west‑southwest, the storm was centered near 20.8° N, 61.0° E – roughly 210 km southeast of Ras Al Hadd in Oman, 220 km east of Masirah, 780 km southwest of Karachi, 850 km west‑southwest of Naliya, and 850 km west of Dwarka.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) says Shakhti will keep heading west‑southwest and gradually lose strength, becoming a cyclonic storm by the morning of October 6. After that, the storm is expected to turn back east over the Arabian Sea and weaken into a depression by the afternoon of October 7.
At the same time, the IMD spotted a Western Disturbance forming over the middle troposphere above Jammu and nearby areas. Two low‑level troughs were also active: one stretching from North Bihar through North Odisha and Jharkhand, and another extending from coastal Andhra Pradesh to the Comorin, Rayalaseema and Tamil Nadu regions.
A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to move into northwest India on October 6, bringing significant weather activity across East India. The department forecasts heavy rainfall in Sub‑Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Saturday, and expects light to moderate showers and occasional thunderstorms with gusty winds (30–40 km/h) over most parts of East India for the next three to four days.
According to the IMD, residents in the affected areas should stay tuned to local weather updates and be prepared for sudden changes in weather. ()
