In New Delhi on October 6, Congress MP Manickam Tagore slammed the Election Commission of India (ECI) as “compromised” and “working like a BJP organization.” He said the ECI should stay neutral, but it has lost credibility, according to the veteran politician.

Tagore also voiced confidence that if the elections are free and fair, the INDIA alliance – Congress, RJD, and other left‑wing partners – will win the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls and form the state government. “We know the ECI is supposed to be the umpire. It is now compromised,” he told .

The Congress leader pointed out that the NDA, led by the BJP, has announced schemes just before the polls: a youth package in Bihar on October 2 and a ₹10,000 grant for women. “For two decades the NDA did nothing for the youth or women, now we see them announcing money schemes as the election draws near,” Tagore warned.

The ECI is scheduled to hold a press conference tomorrow at 4 p.m. to announce the timetable for Bihar’s 243‑seat assembly election. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar already said the vote will take place before November 22, when the current assembly’s term ends.

Bihar’s political landscape is split between the NDA, which holds 131 seats—80 for the BJP, 45 for JD(U), four for HAM(S) and two independents—and the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) with 111 seats—77 for RJD, 19 for Congress, 11 for CPI(ML), two for CPI(M) and two for CPI.

Campaigning is now in full swing across the state. Parties are sharpening their messages, trading accusations, and pushing hard for voters. The outcome of the election will determine the direction of Bihar’s development, especially in areas such as youth policy, women’s welfare, and overall governance.

The key question for voters remains: will the Election Commission of India deliver a fair and transparent election that reflects the true will of the people?
