How the different types of broadband are trending

  • Fixed wireless (5G, Wi‑Fi, Wi‑Max, etc.) – This segment pulled the biggest jump, surging 29.7 % to 11.40 million subscribers from 8.79 million in July.
  • Fixed wired – The figures dipped 3.1 % to 44.07 million, down from 45.49 million in July.
  • Mobile wireless – Growth remained modest, but still positive, as users climbed to 934.11 million from 930.41 million.

In total, mobile broadband led the way with the largest share of users, followed by fixed wired and then fixed wireless.

Who’s winning the broadband race

  • Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd kept its top spot, holding 501.31 million users.
  • Bharti Airtel followed with 309.22 million.
  • Vodafone Idea had 127.48 million.
  • Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) was next at 34.31 million, while Atria Convergence Technologies added 2.35 million.

Other key telecom stats

The government also said that India hosted over 1 billion internet users by 30 June 2025. That figure jumped 3.48 % from March, reaching 1,002.85 million. Of these, 4.47 million use wired internet and 95.81 million rely on wireless connections, per the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

Tele‑density, or the percentage of the population with access to telecommunications services, climbed to 86.09 % – up from 85.04 % in the previous quarter. Around 57.94 million users live in urban areas, while 42.33 million are in rural regions.

These numbers confirm India’s continued move toward a more connected future, with broadband and mobile services expanding throughout the country.
