Thousands march in Amsterdam urging tougher Dutch stance on Gaza war

Thousands of people in bright red shirts marched through the streets of Amsterdam on Sunday. They called on the Dutch government to step up and help put an end to the nearly two‑year war in Gaza, and to do more against Israel’s military campaign.
The walk happened just a few weeks before the country’s national elections. Earlier this year, similar rallies in The Hague pulled tens of thousands of people. Amsterdam’s march ran at the same time as a wave of protests across Europe – in Rome, Barcelona and Madrid hundreds of thousands were on the streets, demanding an end to the conflict. Smaller gatherings also took place in Paris, Lisbon, Athens, Skopje, London and Manchester, showing how widespread anger is over the Gaza fighting.
The demonstrations came after Hamas announced it had agreed to parts of a peace proposal offered by former U.S. President Donald Trump. Last Friday, a general strike in Italy drew in more than 2 million people in solidarity with Palestinians.
The protests underscore the growing pressure on governments worldwide to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to influence Israel’s actions in the region.
