Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath spoke at the two‑day Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) Conclave in Varanasi, where he highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s role as a food‑grain powerhouse. He announced that the state contributes 21 % of India’s total food production, a fact he stressed while noting that the state’s agricultural output has grown five‑fold over the past 11 years.
During the conclave, which ran from October 5‑7 at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Yogi highlighted the state’s partnership with global research bodies such as CGIAR centres. He praised IRRI and the International Institute of Rice Research (IISR) for helping produce climate‑resistant rice varieties and for guiding local scientists in modern farming techniques. “These institutes keep our farmers ahead of the curve,” he said.
The Chief Minister also celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Uttar Pradesh Department of Agriculture. He commended initiatives like Soil Health Cards, the Kisan Samman Nidhi programme, and the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system, all of which now touch 100 million farmers across the country.
“Uttar Pradesh still leads in production even though it covers only 11 % of the country’s land,” Yogi added. He urged the International Potato Centre (IPC) to speed up new potato technologies, and highlighted the Seed Park in Lucknow as a key resource for climate‑resilient seeds.
Looking ahead, the CM set an ambitious goal: by 2030, Uttar Pradesh should become a global food supplier and part of a trillion‑dollar economy. He said the state would keep working with CGIAR partners and expand its agricultural universities to support that vision.
The conclave also focused on preserving India’s rich agricultural heritage. Yogi praised Kalanamak, the legendary rice variety that once fed Buddha and now represents a “One District One Product” model. He praised ISIRR for promoting local varieties and turning them into value‑added products.
Beyond the agricultural forum, Yogi Adityanath celebrated local sanitation workers during a ceremony at Saroja Palace. He awarded them robes, safety kits, sweets, and announced that each worker will receive a free medical coverage card worth roughly 5 lakh rupees. The Chief Minister also pledged direct bank transfers of 16 000–20 000 rupees per month to protect sanitation workers from exploitation.
Overall, the event underscored Uttar Pradesh’s agricultural achievements, its commitment to modern science, and its effort to honor those who keep the state clean and healthy. The CM’s messages at the DSR conclave and the sanitation workers’ tribute highlight a government focused on food security, farmer welfare, and community pride.
