In Varanasi on Monday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath handed out sewing machines, laptops and certificates to about 250 young people at the 14th session of the Sewing, Embroidery and Computer Training Centre. The centre, run by the Kashi Annapurna Anna Kshetra Trust, is located inside the Annapurna Rishikul Brahmacharyashram Sanskrit College in Shivpur.

The ceremony was a clear sign of the state’s push to boost skill development among its youth. Yogi Adityanath thanked the ashram’s head, Mahant Shankar Puri, for organising the event and praised the 108‑year‑old institution for its charitable work. He also congratulated the students and women who were receiving the training, noting that sewing skills can help them earn a better living.

Speaking to the crowd, the chief minister highlighted how government programmes like Mission Shakti and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao are aimed at empowering women. He reminded attendees that the textile sector, second only to agriculture in jobs worldwide, offers many opportunities for women. Through initiatives such as “One District, One Product”, the state hopes to produce fabrics that will be worn by women across the globe.

Yogi Adityanath also mentioned the development of a new textile park—Vastra Mitra on 1,100 acres in the capital—along with other textile parks planned for the state to create more jobs.

The ashram, which also promotes Sanskrit, hosted chants and Vedic rituals during the event. The centre blends modern education with the Sanskrit tradition, and the government is supporting this through scholarships and research facilities.

The event drew a mix of local officials, including Minister of State Ravindra Jaiswal, AYUSH Minister Dr. Dayashankar Mishra, district leaders, and police officers, underscoring the wide support for skill‑development and women’s empowerment initiatives in Uttar Pradesh.
