In Srinagar, the Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant governor announced that the government will send a fresh cash boost to farmers in the state.

The advance release of the 21st installment of the PM‑Kisan Samman Nidhi plan will transfer about ₹171 crore directly into the bank accounts of approximately 855,000 farmers across the union territory.

Lt‑Gov. Manoj Sinha thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for making the payment available ahead of schedule. He said the money will help farmers keep their fields productive and protect the rural economy during a difficult period.

The scheme, part of the central government’s “farmers first” strategy, is designed to give regular payments that cover farm‑input costs and living expenses. In Jammu and Kashmir, the programme is expected to lift incomes and accelerate recovery after the recent floods, which were the worst the region has seen in decades.

“We are committed to working closely with the Centre to ensure that farmers receive all support they need to resume normal agricultural activities,” the lieutenant governor added.

In addition to the PM‑Kisan fund, the Union Ministry of Rural Development has already released ₹4,224 crore under the fourth phase of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY‑IV). This will fund 316 road projects, covering 1,781 km, marking the largest budget ever approved for Jammu and Kashmir under the rural roads scheme.

The combined assistance—direct cash support for farmers and infrastructure investment for roads—aims to strengthen agriculture, improve market access, and promote rural resilience across the union territory.
