Japan’s foreign minister, Takeshi Iwaya, told Israeli officials that any move to break the foundation of a two‑state solution could trigger sanctions or even the recognition of a Palestinian state. He added that Tokyo would consider all options if Israel’s actions undermine the goal of a lasting peace.

Iwaya, speaking on the anniversary of the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks, urged Israel to stop one‑sided actions, secure a ceasefire, release all captives, and boost humanitarian aid to Gaza. He cited President Trump’s plan as a roadmap for all parties.

“If Israel destroys the basis for a two‑state solution, Japan could impose sanctions or recognize Palestinian statehood,” Iwaya warned.

At the same time, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio marked the two‑year anniversary of the Oct. 7 attacks. He reaffirmed America’s unwavering support for Israel’s right to exist, defend itself and ensure its people’s safety. Rubio also condemned a surge of anti‑Semitism worldwide and pledged never to compromise in fighting it.

In a message of solidarity, Rubio joined a vigil for Israeli hostage families and survivors, noting that 48 hostages remain in Hamas captivity, including the remains of Americans Itay Chen and Omer Neutra.

Meanwhile, U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are headed to Sharm el‑Sheikh in Egypt to discuss Trump’s Gaza proposal. The two will stay in Egypt until a deal releases hostages and ends the war. Israeli advisor Ron Dermer and Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani will also travel to Egypt to join the talks.

These diplomatic efforts come as Tokyo, Washington, and other global players work to calm tensions in the region, aiming to secure a sustainable peace and protect people on both sides.
