Priyanka Gandhi meets dairy farmers in Kerala, vows to raise concerns with Centre

Priyanka Gandhi swung into action in Kerala’s Kodenchery on Tuesday, heading straight to a local dairy farm to meet the farmers who keep the state’s milk supply humming.

While walking around the pasture, she met a cow she jokingly called “Alia Bhatt,” a quick wink to the Bollywood star that later sparked a light‑hearted apology on her Facebook‑moved platform, X.

The congress leader used the visit to flag the growing crisis that many dairy farmers face in Kerala. In a post shared on X, Priyanka highlighted that rising prices of veterinary medicines, limited insurance coverage, and a shortage of quality cattle feed make it hard for small‑scale dairy farmers to stay afloat. “Many farmers are struggling to make ends meet,” she wrote. She added that she would formally address the ministry to bring these issues to the top of the agenda.

She thanked the farmers for their honesty and promised to push for their welfare. “I will do whatever I can to help,” she confirmed.

The trip comes amid mounting concerns about the sustainability of dairy farming in Kerala, where high input costs and weak support systems threaten livelihoods. Priyanka’s outreach fits into her broader push to stay connected with grassroots communities, especially in her Wayanad constituency, which suffered devastating landslides last year.

Last week, after the central government allocated only Rs 260.56 crore—far short of the Rs 2,221 crore Kerala had asked for to rebuild landslide‑hit Wayanad—Priyanka took to X to call the aid a “neglect.” She urged that relief and rehabilitation rise above politics, stressing that the people of Wayanad deserve justice, support, and dignity.

Early October saw the first dedicated financial assistance announced by the centre for Wayanad’s reconstruction, offering a glimmer of hope for affected communities.
