In Delhi, a lawyer tried to throw an object at the Chief Justice of India, sparking a sharp rebuke from Congress MP Pramod Tiwari. The incident took place inside the Supreme Court on Monday when 71‑year‑old Rakesh Kishore, a practicing attorney, stepped into Court Room 1 and attempted to hurl a sports shoe toward CJI BR Gavai. Court security stopped him instantly, and the police took him into custody.
Tiwari announced his anger on social media and with newson the day, saying the attack showed a growing “hatred in the name of religion and caste.” He added that the BJP government was allowing such hostility to taint India’s highest court, warning that the attacker showed no remorse.
The Bar Council of India reacted quickly, suspending Kishore’s license because “prima facie material” confirmed he tried to launch the shoe during proceedings. “It’s a sad incident when a lawyer assaults inside a courtroom,” Tiwari said. He urged the authorities to act, noting the attack may’ve been linked to a comment the Chief Justice made about Lord Vishnu.
Advocate Anas Tanwir, who witnessed the event, described the attacker as fully uniformed, carrying a proximity card and a bag with a bundle of papers. The BJP faces criticism for allowing such acts of intimidation. The Supreme Court and security officials continue to investigate, while the Bar Council keeps the lawyer blocked until the case is resolved.
