On Mumbai’s streets it feels like an evening in a Bollywood movie, but today it’s a quiet salute to a legendary actor.
Raaj Kumar’s birth anniversary falls on Friday, and veteran star Raj Babbar posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. The black‑and‑white photo shows the two of them together, and a short caption reads: “He had a magical voice and his dialogues were simply extraordinary. It was impossible to act alongside him and not be influenced.”
Babbar remembers Kumar as an irreplaceable talent who respected the craft and inspired everyone around him. He praised the actor’s powerful presence on screen and the way he delivered lines, saying that his confidence was fearless but his respect for fellow performers was deep.
The two shared the set in the 1975 film Muqaddar Ka Faisla. The film is one of many that highlighted Kumar’s talent, though he first gained national fame in 1957’s Mother India, directed by Mehboob Khan. That cinematic milestone made him a household name across India.
Raaj Kumar, who appeared in nearly 70 films over four decades, began his career as a police officer before turning to acting. Early works like Rangeeli, Anmol Sahar, Aabshar, and Ghamand gave him modest recognition, but it was Mother India that turned him into a household legend.
He battled throat cancer for two years and passed away in July 1996. Fans and film friends remember him as an unmistakable voice in Indian cinema—his dialogue delivery still rings in the minds of new generations of actors and audiences alike.
For Raj Babbar, the tribute was a reminder that Raj Kumar’s legacy lives on. “He was everyone’s favourite and will never be replaced,” Babbar wrote, honoring a man whose fearless confidence and authentic talent continue to inspire the Bollywood world.
