In Patna on Oct. 8, Tejashwi Yadav, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief, took to the press to criticize the recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan over Operation Sindoor. The party leader said he and his supporters had placed their hopes in the Indian Army, but the ceasefire—triggered by a single tweet from U.S. President Donald Trump—left those hopes shattered. “I don’t understand why the Prime Minister agreed to a ceasefire,” Yadav said, adding that the decision upset him and “the hopes we had from the PM have been broken.”

That same day, hundreds of RJD workers and local supporters from Masaurhi marched to Patna Airport after Yadav’s arrival from Bhagalpur. The demonstrators shouted slogans against their own party MLA, Rekha Devi, demanding that she be stripped of her ticket for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. “Masaurhi ko bachana hai, Rekha ko hatana hai” – “We must save Masaurhi, remove Rekha” – were the chant. Party activists met Yadav at the airport to make the request directly, hoping the party will replace her with another candidate for the Masaurhi seat.

Yadav’s comments came just a few days after he condemned the recent shoe‑throwing incident at the Supreme Court. He criticized the act as a shameful sign of rising hate and violence in India since 2014 and called it an “evil consequence of normalising” such behavior. The shoe was thrown at Chief Justice BR Gavai, the highest judicial officer in the country, with Yadav posting a self‑made video on X to denounce the smash.

Across Bihar’s political landscape, these events show an RJD that remains highly vocal. Yadav’s sharp criticism of Prime Minister Modi’s decision and the U.S. president’s role over the Indo‑Pak ceasefire, combined with a street protest over a local MLA’s credibility, keeps the party’s political battles front‑and‑center. Meanwhile, the shoe incident at the Supreme Court underscores a broader concern for respect toward the judiciary in India.
