Bhopal police on Wednesday announced a ₹20,000 reward for anyone who can help find the owner of Srisan Pharmaceuticals, the Tamil‑Nad carrier of Coldrif syrup that has taken the lives of 20 children in Chhindwara and nearby districts.
The Madhya Pradesh security team already flew to Tamil Nadu looking for the company’s boss, but the man was nowhere to be found. “That’s why we’re offering a reward,” said Superintendent of Police Ajay Pandey.
The death toll from the toxic cough syrup has shaken the state. Rajendra Shukla, deputy chief minister and health minister, confirmed 20 children have died, with 17 from Chhindwara, two from Betul, and one from Pandhurna. Five more kids are in hospitals in Nagpur, Government Medical College, AIIMS and a private facility. He added that Bihar’s medical staff are working hard to save the sick children.
Dr. Praveen Soni, a government paediatrician at Civil Hospital in Parasia, was suspended and then sent to 14‑day judicial custody after the death investigations. His bail application was rejected by the Chhindwara sessions court.
The Chhindwara Chemist Association declared an indefinite strike that began at midnight to protest the sealing of five drug stores. President Santosh Chore told reporters the admin should hold manufacturers and lab certifiers accountable, not the local shops. “We’re not stopping the investigation, but we don’t agree with sealing our stores,” he said. The strike comes as authorities were taking samples from the chemists’ premises.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that the state will cover all medical costs for the nine children in Nagpur who are suffering from kidney infections caused by the syrup. The CM’s office also said a joint team of magistrates and doctors has been deployed in Nagpur to ensure continuous monitoring and proper care.
The M.P. government has launched an aggressive search for the Coldrif owner. Police teams from Chhindwara have headed to Chennai and Kanchipuram to arrest the producer of the deadly cough syrup. The state keeps tightening its grip on the case, while the government promises all possible help for the children still battling for their lives.
