In Washington, President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas have agreed on the first phase of a new peace plan. The deal could bring an end to the long‑running conflict that has killed thousands in Gaza and sparked global concern.

Trump posted on his Truth Social account that under the plan, all hostages would be released “very soon.” He also said Israel will pull its troops back to a mutually agreed line, which he called the first step toward a strong, durable, and everlasting peace. In the same post, Trump thanked mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for helping make the agreement possible, calling those “peace‑makers” blessed.

The president will have a routine yearly check‑up at Walter Reed Medical Center on Friday. Afterward, he may travel to the Middle East as negotiators work to finalise a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel. White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said he hopes to meet with Israeli and Palestinian leaders soon.

In related news, Hamas “Gaza chief” Khalil al‑Hayya is meeting with the head of Egyptian intelligence to put the finishing touches on a historic Gaza agreement. A source told Al Jazeera that the deal could be announced as early as Thursday.

Meanwhile, the State of Palestine has warned that Israel’s actions in Gaza amount to genocide. In a letter posted on its official X account, the Palestinian delegation accused Israel of waging a genocidal war, citing a casualty toll that has now surpassed 237,000 Palestinians in Gaza alone. The letter described Israel’s campaign as “collective punishment” that destroys Palestinian society and threatens to continue in the West Bank amid rising settler violence and forced displacement.

The letter called on the United Nations Security Council to stop the violence. “Israel’s degradation of life and international law must be halted,” the message said. “On this tragic second anniversary we reiterate: This genocide must be stopped.”

The peace plan, if fully implemented, could signal a historic turning point for the Israel‑Hamas conflict and could ease tensions across the broader region. Global observers are watching closely as the next steps unfold.
