Hyderabad gets a new election story. Congress has chosen Naveen Yadav to run in the upcoming by‑poll for the Jubilee Hills seat in the Telangana Legislative Assembly. The decision was confirmed by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday.
The election is moving fast. District Election Officer and GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan has issued clear rules to enforce the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the Jubilee Hills contest. Since the last tally, officials logged 1,620 cases of defacement—posters, banners and wall writing—on public and private property. All vandalism was removed quickly.
Karnan says the MCC must be followed at all times. He set up 24/7 monitoring through the 1950 Election Helpline and the C‑VIGIL app, and stationed Flying Squads and fixed patrol teams in the area. Any campaign material must get approval from the Election Commission before it goes up on public or private walls.
In another twist, Naveen Yadav is the target of a complaint. A case was filed under the Representation of the People Act after a Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officer saw him handing out voter ID cards in Madhura Nagar. The officer acted on photos shown in a newspaper.
Both the police and election officials say they’re keeping a close eye on the situation. With the new candidate in place and MCC rules in force, the by‑poll in Jubilee Hills is shaping up to be a closely watched contest in Hyderabad’s politics.
