Washington, Oct 9—President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas have signed the first phase of a Gaza peace plan. “All hostages will be released very soon,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social page. “Israel will pull back troops to an agreed line as the first step toward a strong, durable, everlasting peace.”

Trump praised mediators from Qatar, Egypt and Turkey for making the “historic and unprecedented” agreement possible. He added that he might travel to the Middle East later this week to discuss the deal on the ground.

The plan followed three days of behind‑the‑scenes talks in Egypt’s Sharm el‑Sheikh, a resort on the Red Sea. Delegations from the United States, Qatar, Turkey, Israel and Hamas met to craft a ceasefire that would end the fighting, free hostages on both sides, swap Palestinian prisoners, and open humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Egypt’s Al‑Qahera News TV said the parties reached an agreement covering all implementation details of the first phase, and a final draft is being finalized. Egyptian President Abdel‑Fattah al‑Sisi called the negotiations “progressing positively” and said the talks are headed for a positive outcome.

Since the war erupted on Oct 7, Israeli airstrikes and Hamas attacks have devastated the Gaza Strip. Gaza’s health authorities report at least 67,183 deaths and 169,841 injuries. The ceasefire, if fully implemented, could bring an urgent end to the conflict and restore hope for relief and peace.
