UN Chief welcomes announcement to secure ceasefire, hostage release in Gaza

Geneva, Switzerland – On Friday, UN Secretary‑General Antonio Guterres praised a fresh ceasefire deal that aims to end fighting in Gaza and free hostages, a plan put forward by former U.S. President Donald Trump. The agreement, brokered by the United States, Qatar, Egypt and Turkey, calls for a permanent stop to the violence, immediate humanitarian aid, and the release of all hostages in a dignified way.

Guterres tweeted that the UN will “support full implementation of the agreement & will scale up the delivery of sustained & principled humanitarian relief.” He urged every party to honor the deal and emphasized that the stakes for peace are never higher.

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al‑Ansari announced on X that the first phase of the ceasefire covers Israeli hostages, Palestinian prisoners and the entry of aid into Gaza. “Tonight, a deal was reached that will end the war, release hostages, and bring help to Gaza,” Al‑Ansari said.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the day a “great day for Israel.” He plans to convene his cabinet to approve the agreement and lift Palestinians back to their homes. Netanyahu thanked the Israeli military, U.S. forces, and Trump’s team for their “commitment to freeing our kidnapped people.”

Hamas, for the first time since the announcement, issued a statement on Telegram confirming the agreement. It highlighted an end to the Gaza conflict, withdrawal of occupation forces, aid entry, and a prisoner exchange. The group urged that Israel fully enforce the deal without delay and re‑affirmed its pledge to defend Palestinian national rights.

The ceasefire proposal is being hailed by diplomats and leaders as a potential path toward lasting peace. If fully implemented, it could pave the way toward a two‑state solution and bring Israelis and Palestinians closer to coexistence. The news, live across social media and news sites, holds the promise of an end to suffering and a clearer political future for Gaza.
