Abu Dhabi, Oct 9 – Afghanistan’s spin legend Rashid Khan made history in a low‑key win over Bangladesh, becoming the first Afghan bowler to claim 200 wickets in One‑Day Internationals (ODIs).
The 7‑year‑old Milad carried out the feat in his tenth over of the game, taking three wickets for 38 runs. He dismissed the Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, both captains of the sides, and all‑rounder Nurul Hassan.
Across 115 ODI matches, Rashid has taken 202 wickets at an average of 20.28 and an economy of 4.23. His best figures of 7‑for‑18 stand out, along with six four‑wicket hauls and five five‑wicket performances. Afghanistan’s top wicket‑takers are Rashid Khan (202 wickets), veteran all‑rounder Mohammed Nabi (176 wickets) and bowling bud Dawlat Zadran (115 wickets).
Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat. They were rattled at 53‑3 but a 101‑run partnership between Towhid Hridoy and Mehidy kept them in the game. Hridoy’s run‑out and Rashid’s three quick wickets turned the tide, and Bangladesh finished at 221 for 7. Other Afghan wicket‑takers were Azmatullah Omarzai (3‑for‑40), Allah Ghazanfar (2‑for‑55) and Nangeyalia Kharote (1‑for‑32).
Afghanistan chased the target with flair. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran opened with a 52‑run stand; Gurbaz hit 50 in 76 balls, and together pulled 78 runs with Rahmat Shah. Omarzai added a quick 40, with six fours and a six, and the captain Hashmatullah Shahidi chipped in for 33. Nabi finished unbeaten on 11, and Afghanistan won 222‑all‑out with five wickets to spare and 17 balls remaining.
Omarzai’s all‑round effort earned him Player of the Match. The win puts Afghanistan ahead 1‑0 in the three‑match ODI series, while Bangladesh dominates the T20I series 3‑0.
