Gandhinagar, Gujarat – The state government is marking a week‑long celebration called Vikas Saptah from October 7 to 15, with October 10 dedicated to Industry Entrepreneurship Day. The day highlights Gujarat’s strong industrial spirit and its record of innovation in the automobile sector.
The government says Gujarat has become a key engine for India’s industrial growth under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Back in 2009, when Modi was Chief Minister, the state launched several initiatives that pushed Gujarat to the forefront of India’s auto‑manufacturing industry.
Over the past 15 years, Gujarat’s automotive output has risen 24.84 % year on year. Production of motor vehicles, trailers and semi‑trailers jumped from about ₹3,200 crore in 2008‑09 to a staggering ₹71,425 crore in 2022‑23 – a 22‑fold increase and the highest level ever recorded. The 2022‑23 figure shows the state’s power as a manufacturing hub.
The Make In India campaign, launched in 2014, has found one of its brightest success stories in Gujarat. Since 2015‑16, vehicle manufacturing has grown 12 times, from ₹5,836 crore to ₹71,425 crore in 2022‑23. Even after the pandemic, the sector rebounded quickly, more than doubling output from ₹34,107 crore in 2020‑21 to ₹71,425 crore in 2022‑23 – a rise of 109 %.
Gujarat’s growth also shows strong export momentum. In fiscal year 2024‑25, the state shipped about ₹13,800 crore worth of autos and auto components overseas. Motor vehicle exports rose 31.5 % from the previous year, reaching ₹11,172 crore, while auto parts exports added another ₹2,628 crore. The state exported nearly 178,000 cars to 102 countries, including major markets like South Africa, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Chile, the UAE, Mexico and Colombia.
The state’s auto hubs—Sanand and the Mandal‑Becharaji Special Investment Region—attract big names such as Suzuki, Tata, Hero Corp and Honda. These sites offer world‑class infrastructure and export‑focused facilities, cementing Gujarat’s reputation as “India’s automotive heartland.”
With strategic ports, a pro‑business environment and a focus on innovation, Gujarat is not just chasing India’s Make In India goal but also aiming to be the world’s most trusted manufacturing hub. The ongoing Vikas Saptah reflects the state’s pride in these achievements and its drive toward even greater industrial expansion.
