Hyderabad, Oct 9 – The Prime Volleyball League (PVL) delivered a nail‑biter at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, as Chennai Blitz edged past Goa Guardians 15‑13 to win the series 3‑2 (12‑15, 15‑11, 11‑15, 18‑16, 15‑13).
Jerome Vinith stole the spotlight, earning the “Player of the Match” for his powerful attacks and sharp defense.
The venue was buzzing with excitement when Olympic gold‑medalist and shooting icon Abhinav Bindra arrived to meet the players before the game began.
Game‑changing moments
Goa opened strong. Prince dominated the middle, while Jeffrey Menzel’s serve pressure pushed Chennai into a tight spot. Tarun Gowda K. countered with a thunderous super serve, giving the Blitz the momentum they needed.
When the score levelled, Goa lifted their game. Nathaniel Dickinson and Jeffrey Menzel stepped up, with Menzel’s back‑to‑back aces setting the stage. Goa captain Chirag kept a cool head, directing a solid defense against Jerome’s relentless smashes. Prince’s sharp blocking tipped the ball in Goa’s favor again.
Menzel’s aces let Goa surging ahead, but a few late errors opened the door for Chennai. Luiz Felipe Perotto delivered the decisive super serve that pushed the series into a fifth set, setting the stage for a thrilling finish.
In the final set, Dickinson earned a super point that moved Goa ahead, while Suraj Chaudhary and Aditya Rana held Chennai close with solid defending. Jerome responded with a dramatic smash for a super point, but Dickinson quickly countered. In the final minute, Perotto and Suraj blocked Chirag, sealing a memorable 3‑2 win for the Blitz.
