In a string of high‑profile drug busts, Hyderabad police’s elite anti‑drugs Task Force, known as EAGLE, has taken down two major drug operations in the city’s suburbs.

On Monday, officials seized 220 kg of ephedrine—a precursor used to make heroin and other narcotics—worth about ₹70 crore on the international market. The drug was found inside a residential flat in Jeedimetla, on the outskirts of Hyderabad. EAGLE arrested four people connected to the plot.

The key suspect, Shiva Ramakrishna Parama Varma, a former chemist and real‑estate businessman from Kakinada, had already faced drug charges in 2017 and 2019. He approached Dangeti Anil, the production manager at PNM Life Sciences, and pitched a plan to produce ephedrine at the company’s unit in IDA Bollarum. Anil brought in two directors—Venkata Krishna Rao and M. Prasad—to the scheme.

Varma supplied critical chemicals and an extra ₹8 lakh for raw materials. Together, the group produced the drug and stored it in Varma’s flat before police moved in. Two additional suspects, Musini Dorababu, a production operator at Vignasai Laboratories, and M. Prasad, were also arrested. Prasad is currently missing, but the Task Force has seized the company’s manufacturing facility.

In a separate EAGLE operation, the team collaborated with Cyberabad police to seize 107.4 grams of cocaine worth ₹7.5 lakh near Manchirevula in Ranga Reddy district. Two Hyderabad residents—Siram Ananth Kumar (50) and Peruru Veerababu (32)—were taken into custody. Authorities are still looking for a third suspect, Karthikeya Shekar in Mumbai, who supplied the drugs.

The two men had allegedly been transporting cocaine from Mumbai to Hyderabad, targeting wealthy consumers and party crowds. Investigation findings revealed that Ananth Kumar had struggled with cocaine addiction since 2017 and turned to peddling to finance his habit. He and Veerababu sourced the drug from Karthikeya Shekar before selling it locally.

Deputy Commissioner of Police for Cyberabad, Yogesh Goutam, confirmed that a case has been registered at Narsingi Police Station under sections 8(c) read‑with 22(c), 27A, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

These operations highlight Hyderabad’s intensified crackdown on drug manufacturing and distribution. EAGLE’s swift arrests and large drug seizures demonstrate the city’s commitment to preventing the spread of narcotics and safeguarding its residents.
