Marco Rubio praises Trump for Gaza peace plan

On a cold Thursday in Washington, Secretary of State Marco Rubio told a cabinet meeting that the first phase of a Gaza ceasefire—an agreement between Israel and Hamas—was made possible largely because President Donald Trump stepped in and built personal ties with key Middle‑East leaders.

Rubio praised Trump’s recent trips to the region, saying the president’s face‑to‑face meetings with countries like Indonesia and Pakistan helped “forge the foundation” for the new peace plan. He noted the historic gathering of Muslim‑majority nations at the United Nations on September 23, and the White House meeting Trump had with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on September 29.

The ceasefire, which would see a halt to fighting and the release of hostages, is expected to begin soon. Trump tapped into the moment, declaring that the war in Gaza had been ended and that it “could lead to lasting peace.” He also planned an upcoming signing in Egypt to formalise the agreement.

In his speech, Trump echoed earlier remarks he made at the 80th UN General Assembly, claiming he has already ended seven long‑standing conflicts while in office—ranging from Kashmir to South‑Ossetia. He reiterated that the Gaza deal is his eighth major peace achievement. “We’ve settled seven wars, and this is number eight,” Trump said. He hinted that a similar resolution might soon be reached for the Russia‑Ukraine conflict, urging that the war be stopped.

Jawadhi? The cabinet meeting underscored the U.S. role in global diplomacy, with Rubio highlighting the president’s personal involvement as the key factor behind the Gaza breakthrough—a story that could influence how the U.S. is seen in international peace‑building efforts.
