“Tough game, deserved win for South Africa”: Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur

Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur praised the South African batters after India fell short in the Women’s World Cup match in Visakhapatnam. “India collapsed while batting, but we still managed to post 250,” Kaur said. “Chloe and Nadine deserved the win with the way they played.”

South African captain Laura Wolvaardt applauded Nadine de Klerk, who played a stunning knock of 84 not out. De Klerk and teammate Chloe Tryon combined for 69 runs, helping South Africa chase down a 251‑run target and win by three wickets.

India put up a strong fight. Richa Ghosh, batting at number eight, scored 94, the highest ever by a number‑eight batter in a Women’s ODI World Cup. She and Sneh Rana added a record‑breaking 88‑run partnership to rescue the innings before India fell short.

The win was South Africa’s second straight victory in the tournament, while India suffered its first loss. Highlights from the scorecard:

  • India Women: 251/10 (Richa Ghosh 94, Pratika Rawal 37; Nonkululeko Mlaba 2/46)
  • South Africa Women: 252/7 (Nadine de Klerk 84*, Laura Wolvaardt 70; Sneh Rana 2/47)

The match was a tough test for both teams, but India’s batting collapse and South Africa’s solid chase kept the excitement high. The game underlined how important resilience and partnership work are in World Cup cricket.
