In Rome today, leading Italian lawmakers and experts praised the fresh peace deal between Israel and Hamas. They said the agreement could unlock new trade opportunities along the India‑Middle East‑Europe Economic Corridor, or IMEC, a vital economic bridge linking India, Israel, and Europe.

The meeting, held inside the Italian Parliament, marked the second anniversary of the Hamas attack that killed thousands in Israel. At the event, Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Vice‑President, Paolo Formentini, spoke about the lasting impact of the violence. “We must not forget the horrors Hamas inflicted,” he said. “We will not let rising anti‑Semitism distort our remembrance.”

Formentini also highlighted the role of the White House in encouraging the peace talks, noting that President Donald Trump’s administration helped broker the historic agreement. He called it a turning point that could finally end the long‑standing conflict.

Jewish leaders from Rome and Israel’s ambassador, Jonathan Peled, joined the discussion, underscoring the shared hope that the peace deal will bring lasting stability to Gaza and protect Israel from future threats.

With peace on the horizon, parliamentarians expressed optimism that IMEC will restart. The corridor, first announced in New Delhi last September, stalled after the Hamas attack but now looks ready to be revived. The route would connect India to Europe via the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Israel, boosting trade and strengthening ties across the region.

The Italian parliament’s message is clear: a lasting peace between Israel and Hamas could open doors to a new era of trade and cooperation in the Middle East.
