In the heart of Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah on Friday, senior SP member Ram Gopal Yadav marked the third anniversary of the Samajwadi Party’s founder, Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Yadav spoke to reporters about the late politician’s legacy, saying Mulayam never turned anyone away, no matter their party, and that he always helped the poor. “Netaji had supporters from all sides,” he said. “He built the party we now see as India’s third‑largest.”
The party also posted a tribute on X, honoring Mulayam as a former Defence Minister, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, and the Man of the People.
Earlier this week, SP leader Akhilesh Yadav highlighted Mulayam’s and Kanshi Ram’s battle against communal politics. At a press conference on Kanshi Ram’s death anniversary, Akhilesh added that both the SP and BSP worked to lift marginalized communities. He remembered that Mulayam helped Kanshi Ram get elected as MP from Etawah.
Mulayam Singh Yadav, who died on Oct 10, 2022 at 82, served 10 terms in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly and seven in Parliament. He was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan by President Droupadi Murmu, a honor accepted by his son – the SP chief Akhilesh.
The celebrations kept the founder’s memory alive, with party members pledging to carry forward his vision of inclusive, people‑oriented politics.
