New Delhi – Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta celebrated the traditional Karwa Chauth festival at her home on October 10. She joined other women in fasting and performing rituals to wish their husbands good health and a long life.

During the ceremony, Gupta shared her thoughts on the holy occasion. “Women across the country fast for their husbands,” she said, adding heartfelt greetings to all women in India.

The event turned into a lively gathering. Popular singer Jaspinder Narula sang, and women danced together at the CM’s residence, spreading joy and community spirit. Similar celebrations echoed across the country: in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj and Moradabad, in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun, in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar, and in Punjab’s Amritsar.

Karwa Chauth falls on the 15th lunar day of the month of Kartik, in this year’s case on October 10. Women traditionally break their fast after sunset, gazing at the moon through a sieve. They offer a special prayer – the Arghya – to the moon and then break the fast with a small bite and a sip of water from their husband’s hand.

Key items for the Puja include water, milk, kumkum, honey, sandalwood paste, sugar, curd, incense sticks, camphor, the Karwa (a small earthen pot), the Kalawa (the moon’s reflection in a vessel), a small stepladder, a piece of poppy seed (roli), and an oil lamp.

Karwa Chauth remains one of the most celebrated festivals for married Hindu women. It highlights the love and devotion couples share, and the hope for a healthy, long life together.
