The Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference kicked off today at Ganpat University in Mehsana, Gujarat. A key moment was a seminar led by State Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai, who explained the state’s new economic master plan for North Gujarat.
Desai said the plan is a roadmap that aims to grow Gujarat’s economy from $280 billion (FY 2023) to over $3.5 trillion. He highlighted the role of North Gujarat in that growth, noting the plan will guide the creation of smart industrial parks, attract new investors, and lift people’s standard of living. The minister linked the project to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.
S. Aparna, CEO of GRIT and chair of its Executive Committee, added that Gujarat has drafted master plans for six major economic zones: North Gujarat, Kutch, Central Gujarat, Saurashtra, Coastal Saurashtra, and Surat. The Chief Minister unveiled these plans on the conference’s first day.
Aparna outlined the North Gujarat plan specifically. It calls for a capital investment of ₹23‑24 lakh crores, split between ₹5.25 lakh crores from the state and the rest from private firms and institutions. The goal is to create 12 million new jobs, boost economic speed, and improve living standards across Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Gandhinagar, and the rest of the state.
Anna Roy, Principal Economic Advisor at NITI Aayog, praised the master plan and congratulated Gujarat’s government and GRIT for their work.
The plan also focuses on youth by setting up Regional Skilling Centres and Centres of Excellence in areas like green skills, the blue economy, logistics, and AI. Together, these initiatives should generate around 2.8 million new job opportunities for young people in Gujarat.
By anchoring growth in specific regions, the master plans aim to match advanced sectors with local strengths, promising a future where every district in Gujarat contributes to the state’s ambitious economic goals.
