India and Czechia met in Prague from Oct. 7‑9 for their 7th Joint Defence Committee (JDC) meeting. Leaders from both sides talked about boosting defence manufacturing, joint training, and new tech projects that can help both militaries stay modern.
The Indian team, headed by Additional Secretary A. Anbarasu of the Defence Ministry, met Czech officials led by Radka Konderlova, director of Industrial Cooperation at the Czech Defence Ministry. The talks focused on new joint production possibilities, R&D collaborations, technology sharing, and ways to build each country’s defence skills.
At the same time, the “India‑Czechia Defence Industry Seminar” drew defence firms from both nations. The event let industry players explore fresh partnership ideas and strengthen ties between Indian and Czech defence companies.
India and the Czech Republic have a long history of military ties that started when India first recognised the Czech Republic in 1993. A Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2003 launched the JDC, and six meetings have already taken place, the last one in New Delhi in February 2020. Czech firms have steadily supplied equipment to the Indian forces and continue to work on projects aligned with India’s “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” goals.
The latest meeting followed Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala’s visit to India in January 2024, where both sides stressed innovation in defence technology, research, and joint production. The ministries also highlighted the importance of cybersecurity, countering hybrid threats, CBRN defence, and space security—areas where cooperation can grow further.
Both countries remain committed to deeper collaboration, sharing best practices, and coordinating on multilateral platforms such as the United Nations to address cyber and security issues that matter to both armies.
