Sergio Gor, the U.S. ambassador‑designate to India, arrived in New Delhi on Saturday and began a series of high‑profile meetings that highlighted the growing partnership between the two countries. He talked with India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and even had a brief conversation at the Prime Minister’s office with Narendra Modi.
During his first day, Gor said the talks were “very positive.” In a short post on X (formerly Twitter), the U.S. Embassy in India noted, “Met with EAM S Jaishankar today in New Delhi. We had a positive conversation on a range of issues. I look forward to working closely with Jaishankar to deepen our strategic partnership and make our countries more secure and prosperous.”
He also met Doval, and the embassy shared a tweet reading, “A pleasure to spend time with National Security Advisor Doval today. The U.S. and India remain committed to working together to advance a free and open Indo‑Pacific.” The exchange underscored the two nations’ shared focus on regional security and economic ties.
Gor emphasized that the United States values its relationship with India and expressed optimism about future collaboration. He highlighted President Donald J Trump’s strong friendship with Prime Minister Modi, mentioning a recent phone call that reaffirmed the ties at the highest level. “We hit the ground running,” Gor said. “We had great meetings with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Ex‑Affairs Minister Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Doval. We also finished an incredible meeting with Prime Minister Modi, where we discussed defense, trade, technology, and the critical importance of minerals for both our nations.”
The discussions covered a range of topics, including defense cooperation, trade deals, technology exchange, and the growing importance of critical minerals in the U.S.–India partnership. By prioritizing these issues, the two sides aim to strengthen economic resilience and security across the Indo‑Pacific region.
