Mumbai actor Manoj Bajpayee, known for his powerful performances in films like Gangs of Wasseypur and The Family Man, recently opened up about his thoughts on romantic roles and typecasting in middle-class characters. In an exclusive chat with , the versatile star shared his views on Bollywood romance and how he brings real-life vibes to his acting.

When asked if he wants to try a romantic role like many actors from his generation, Bajpayee kept it real. “You can’t picture me as a 25-year-old guy falling for a 20-year-old girl—that’s not happening in this lifetime,” he said with a laugh. But he’s open to the idea if the script fits. “Love isn’t just for the young. If there’s a solid story about middle-aged people in romance, why not? Age doesn’t limit love, right?” This honest take on age-appropriate romantic movies shows Bajpayee’s practical side, making fans curious about what kind of love story he might pick next.

Shifting gears, Bajpayee also talked about whether Bollywood has typecast him in everyday middle-class roles. Far from complaining, he loves it! “I enjoy playing common people because I connect with them,” he explained. These characters feel authentic to him, like folks he’s met in real life. “Every role I read, I think, ‘I’ve seen this person somewhere—in Mumbai trains, documentaries, or my early days here.’ It’s all about observation.”

He even shared a fun memory from his theatre days to highlight how actors stay sharp. “Back then, we had to observe people all the time, but someone joked, ‘People might beat us up for staring!’ Our director simplified it: even if you’re not looking directly, you’re always observing. That’s what makes us actors—we watch our own lives, others’ stories, and society’s changes.” This insight into Manoj Bajpayee’s acting process reveals why his performances in middle-class roles hit home so well, resonating with audiences across India.

Bajpayee’s words remind us why he’s one of Bollywood’s most relatable stars—grounded, observant, and always up for a good script, be it intense drama or a heartfelt romance. Fans are already buzzing about potential new Manoj Bajpayee movies that could explore these themes.
