Quick Police Action Catches Delhi Domestic Help in Theft Case

In a swift crackdown, Delhi Police nabbed a 21-year-old domestic help named Rinku just 24 hours after he allegedly stole cash and jewellery worth lakhs from his employer’s upscale home in the high-security Kasturba Gandhi Marg area. The arrest led to the recovery of most stolen items, including gold jewellery and foreign currency, as shared by officials on Sunday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), New Delhi, Devesh Kumar Mahla revealed that Rinku’s sudden spending spree with high-value transactions tipped off the investigators. The victim, Satinder Singh Chhabra, reported the theft from his home in central Delhi, prompting police to register a case under FIR No. 97/25 on September 6 at Barakhamba Road Police Station. The charges fall under Section 306 BNS for theft by a servant.

Chhabra listed the missing items: Rs 56,800 in cash, five gold rings, four studs, three 50-gram silver biscuits, one 100-gram silver biscuit, one kada, and two gold-coloured bracelets. He also mentioned stolen foreign currency like five euros, 20 dirhams, two ringgit, and two Singapore dollars. This Delhi theft case highlights how even secure areas aren’t immune to insider crimes.

Acting fast, police zeroed in on Rinku as the prime suspect and picked him up for questioning. A deep dive into his mobile phone exposed suspicious UPI transactions involving big amounts of money. "We traced the digital footprints of these financial dealings, which nailed the suspect," DCP Mahla explained. Under intense grilling, Rinku confessed to multiple thefts from Chhabra’s residence, driven purely by greed.

Following his confession, officers arrested Rinku and raided his rented room in South Delhi’s Sangam Vihar. They recovered most of the stolen jewellery and cash right there. Rinku even admitted sending some items to his hometown in Sitapur district, Uttar Pradesh. Police are now working to retrieve those as well.

DCP Mahla gave more details on Rinku’s background. Hailing from Usari village in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, he first worked as a domestic servant in a Rajouri Garden home. Later, a placement agency got him the job at the Chhabra family. But temptation got the better of him, leading to these repeated thefts in Delhi.

This quick resolution in the Delhi domestic help theft case shows how technology like UPI tracking is helping police crack crimes faster. Stay tuned for updates on the ongoing investigation.
