In Tel Aviv on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu celebrated former U.S. President Donald Trump as “the greatest friend” Israel has ever had in the White House. He applauded the former president’s speed, decisiveness and resolve in shaping recent developments in the Middle East.
Netanyahu said Trump’s peace proposal stopped the conflict with Hamas and opened the door to a broader regional settlement. He praised Trump for securing a release of hostages and for “pulling the world together so quickly.” “You’re committed to peace, and I’m committed, too,” Netanyahu told the Knesset. “Together we will finish this.”
The Israeli leader highlighted Trump’s key moves: recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, moving the U.S. embassy there, affirming Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, and standing up for Israel on the United Nations. He also thanked Trump for backing Israel’s interests in the West Bank, helping finalize the Abraham Accords, withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal, and striking Iranian targets in June.
Netanyahu expressed hope that the past two hard years will give way to a future of peace “inside Israel and outside Israel.” He looked forward to continuing cooperation with Trump on new agreements with Arab and Muslim countries.
Later, Netanyahu declined an invitation from Trump to attend a Sharm el‑Sheikh summit of world leaders set to shape Gaza’s future. The prime minister said he could not attend because of a tight schedule before the holiday, welcoming the invitation but indicating he would focus on domestic priorities.
The comments underscore the strong U.S.–Israel tie that has driven recent diplomatic and security actions in the region, including the Abraham Accords, embassy relocation, Golan Heights status, and counter‑Iran moves.
